LG Admin Staff Tasked On Performance

Administrative Officers of the 23 Local Governments in Rivers State have been charged to brace up to the challenges of improving their services at the grass roots.

This charge was given in Port Harcourt today by the Chairman of the State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini JP while declaring open a two-week Refresher Course for Administrative Officers of the Unified Local Government Service co-ordinated by the Establishments, Training and Pension Bureau, Office of the Head of Service, Governor’s Office.

Chief Nmerukini noted the high rate of indiscipline in the service and urged the administrative officers to guard against any act of indiscipline inimical to the service.

He said that the Commission attaches greater importance to staff performance which had made the commission to invest heavily in the training and re-training of her staff.

The Chairman who was represented at the occasion by the Secretary of the Commission, Sir Gabriel Adonye Jumbo said “the only way staff will reciprocate this gesture is for them to take the training serious” and expressed optimism that the course would bring about the best out of them to enhance productivity.

Also, speaking, the Director of Training and Management Services in the Establishments, Training and Pension Bureau, Mr Chinda Weli said that the course was organized to prepare staff to pass their compulsory examinations.

Mr. Weli described Administrative Officers as policy formulators and implementers of policies and programmes of government at all levels, adding that the course was also intended to equip them to discharge their functions efficiently.

In his speech, the Director of Administration in the Bureau, Mr. Nnamdi Okpu decried poor attendance at the course and warned that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against those who not attend the course.

Mr. Okpu assured the participants that quality facilitators have been chosen to teach them and enjoined them to take the course seriously to enable them excel in their job. ###
