Declare State of Emergency On East-West Road, Anucha Charges FG

PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHANThe chairman of Omuma LGA Hon. John Anucha has charged the federal government, especially the Minister of Niger Delta to declare a state of emergency on the deplorable condition of the East-West Road.

The council’s boss made the declaration at the sensitization, mobilization and inauguration of the Omuma chapter of Rivers Leadership Advancement Foundation (RIVLEAF), at the council secretariat over the weekend.

Hon. Anucha while commending the FG on part of the East-West Road, lamented that the road in the recent past has been a slaughter house for commuters, especially the Elele-Ahoada and Bayelsa axis of the road.

He suggested that declaring state of emergency will help even the federal government to pay more attention to the road.

The chairman however, commend the gesture of RIVLEAF and charged members to be more involved in home politics rather than been away, Hon. Anucha who extended his hands of fellowship to the RIVLEAF family said his administration is ready to work with them to move the area to an enviable height through developmental project and capacity building.

Hon. Anucha expressed surprise for the huge turn out, describing it as an evidence of the people’s maximum support for the Amaechi led administration. He reiterated that those fighting Amaechi could be described as those that bite the finger that fed him.

The chairman advised the youths not to allow themselves to be used as tools in the hands of selfish politicians in the area to foment trouble, while condemning the fracas that took place in the House of Assembly on the 9th of July, 2013.

Hon. Anucha had earlier consoled the wife of the president, Dame Patience Jonathan over the death of her foster mother. He used the occasion to disburse thirty motorcycles to deserving youths, as part of measures to bring dividend of democracy to the grassroots.

Commending the gesture of the council chairman Hon. Dickson Umunakwe Commissioner for Special Duties charged youths in the area to support the good governance in the LGA to attract more economic empowerment to the area.

In his speech, the chairman of the event, Hon. Owuene Wonodi warned youths to shun social vices and acts capable of disrupting the peace in the LGA.

Earlier, the President of RIVLEAF told the LGA officers to work closely with the chairman and all the political leaders from the area in harmony, warning that any deviant among them will be sanctioned.

He used the occasion to re-echo the chairman’s charge that ‘Port Harcourt base leadership’ will not be acceptable, since grassroot leadership must be closer to the people.

The president said the inauguration is used for sensitization and mobilization of new members, especially at the wards level.

In his acceptable speech, the foundation chairman RIVLEAF Omuma chapter, Lawrence Ogbueri on behalf of the LGA Exco re-affirmed their commitment and support for good leadership that will bring about development in the area. ####
