Chidi Lloyd Arraignment Suffers Setback, As Police, Attorney General Jostle For Roles

A high court siting in PortHarcourt has adjourned to August 6 this year for Ruling on  whether the Attorney General and commissioner of Justice should take over the prosecution of the leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly Chidi Lloyd as the accused person has not been arraigned before the court. Justice L L Nyordee adjourned the matter following  the insistence  by the Rivers State Attorney General Wogu Boms to take over the prosecution of Chidi Lloyd in the court.  The development came just after a heated debate on the announcement of appearance of Dee Wigwe SAN as counsel to the police and the argument on whether the Attorney general should take over the matter or not.    Counsel to Chidi Llyod Beluolisa Nwofor (SAN) who objected  the appearance of Dee Wigwe (SAN) for the police said that the counsel to the police has no fiat from the Attoney General to prosecute the matter according to criminal proceedings .      However counsel to the police  Dee Wigwe said the police has every right to prosecute the matter. He said that the Attorney General has nothing to take over since the accused has not been properly arraigned before the court.   Meanwhile the detained leader of the house Chidi Lloyd was taken back to police custody ,pending the next sitting.
