Akuku-Toru Local Government Council, has promised to partner with the State Government, through the Ministry of Health to educate mothers in the area on how to achieve safe motherhood. The Council Chairman, Mr. Theodore Georgwill, made this known during the celebration of the 2013 safe motherhood day with a theme, ”Every Women Counts,” at the multi-purpose hall in Abonnema, Headquarters of the LGA.
Mr. Theodore Georgewill, who was represented by the supervisor for Health in the Council, Mr. Tubotamuno Dabin, urged pregnant and nursing mothers to make good use of the advice given them during the occasion. Earlier in her presentation, the guest speaker Mrs. Queen Pepple called on all stakeholders to join hands to make safe motherhood a reality. She advised them to register for antenatal at the Primary Health Centre in the area and also deliver their babies at the Health Centre which is provided to them free of charge by the State Government.
Also speaking the Director of Public Health of the Rivers State Ministry of Health Dr. Ibinabo Ishmael commended the women in the area for attending, adding that the State Government is doing everything possible to provide free and quality Health Services to all and sundry in the State. High point of the event was the screening of both expectant and nursing mothers of HIV/AIDS and the distribution of gift item to all the participants.
