This year’s Rivers State governor soccer cup has commenced registration. From the release available to the Newswriter sports desk, this year’s governor’s cup is restricted to U-21 in all local governors in the state.
Letters have been sent out in earnest to the 23 LGAs in the state, in order for them to register on time.
According to the letter signed and sent to all the 23 LGAs of Rivers State by the scribe of the Rivers State Football Association, Ibigoni Benjamin Akobo, registration starts from 20th May-7th August, 2013. Draws will be made on the 13th August 2013, while screening of all participating players will take place on the 29th of August, 2013 by 9.00pm at the liberation stadium, Port Harcourt.
Other arrangements are; kick off of opening match will be on 10th September, 2013 which will last to 4th of October, 2013. registration fee per LGA team is seventy five thousand naira only (N75,000).
LGA officials are advised not to register players who have participated in any NFF organized leagues up to Amateur Division three in the current season (2012/2013) players/teams are also advised to show medical fitness letter of undertaking to this affect, because the organizers will not be liable for any injury sustained in the course of participation.
Highlights of the 2013 Rivers State governor’s cup are; N1m naira cash prize for the first team, N.5million naira for the second place team while the third place team will smile home with N.35million naira respectively.
Players which teams made up to quarter final stage will have the opportunity of going home with gift items, quarter-finalists will also be given jerseys. In addition, all participating teams will be given transubsidy.
According to the organizers, buses will be available to convey a maximum of 100 supporters from LGA headquarters for the finals.
The organizers also assured effective medical services during the duration of the competition.
The release stated that no late registration shall be entertained when only coaches who are registered with the coaches association will be allowed to seat or lead any participating team from the 23 LGAs of Rivers State in the competition.###
