The Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House, Hon. Tony Okocha has called on Hon. Prince Timothy Nsirim, the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State, not to sack any councilor in the council that is supportive of the administration of the state governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi.
Chief Hon. Tony Okocha made this call at the grand finale of tour of the 23 LGAs embarked upon by the wife of the governor, Dame Judith Amaechi to appreciate widows and less-privileged, through provision of food items, among others.
Emphasizing more on the issue Chief Okocha said: “I stand here as the Chief of Staff Rivers State to appeal to Hon. Timothy Nsirim not to sack any of the councilors that are supporting Amaechi from office, the information at my disposal has it that the council chairman wants to sack those that are supporting my governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi”. In order to buttress his point, the Chief of Staff requested the 17 councilors in Obio/Akpor LGA before Amaechi’s wife to come out, it was clear that only 2 out of the 17 councilors have been following the Chief of Staff in all his events.
Okocha used the medium and thanked Dame Judith Amaechi for her courage to carry out projects without a budget in the state government and yet was able to accomplish her dream.
Meanwhile Hon Nsirim, chairman Obio/Akpor LGA, who referred to himself as the Timothy of the Bible” has called for the change of Port Harcourt to the native name of the people before they will be called by God, adding that Port Harcourt was the name of a stranger that came to the city.
The council boss presented the governors wife with a land document for her Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) programme in the state, admitting that she has made the request for quite a long time. He concluded by saying that posterity will judge the work of everyone on earth.
In his contribution, Hon. Akaralo Chimbiko, the Chairman of Port Harcourt City LGA, commended Judith on behalf of the 23 LGAs in the state for what she has been doing in the state, while Mr. Nnanta Chimelem, Ikwerre Youth Movement IYM President in Obio/Akpor LGA, commend Mrs. Amaechi for the ESI schools and provision of food for the people.
Responding to the issue that the governor’s wife visit might be politically motivated, Chief Dr. Tony A. Chuku, Vice chairman, Woji Council of Chiefs and Elders, a chieftain of PDP, disassociated himself from such insinuation, saying that he saw the gesture as one who feels that she has been placed at a particular position and feels there is need to look down to the downtrodden to put a little smile on their faces. Chuku affirmed that he does not see opposition in Obio/Akpor, urging those that believe in opposition to come and also empower the people.
In her remarks, Dame Judith Amaechi said: “I came to bring good tidings to the people of Obio/Akpor, to wish you a prosperous happy new year, bring you a message of unity, peace and love for one another that is devoid of discrimination or separation. The wife of the state governor thanked Prince Nsirim for the land donation to ESI project and prayed that God will replenish him the more.
Highlight of the event was donation of about 700 bags of rice, pillows and mattress including other food items to the widows and women of the council. ###
