Governor Amaechi Condoles Awolowo Family

His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi has described the death of the Publisher Vice Chairman of the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, Publishers of the Tribune Titles, Chief Oluwale Awolowo, as a great loss, not only to the Awolowo Family, but also the Nation.         Amaechi disclosed this during a condolence visit to the bereaved family at their country home, Ikenne-remo, in Ogun State. He described the late Oluwale Awolowo as a hardworking and honest gentleman, devoted to the service of God and humanity.

He said “the last time Wole and I met here, we shared jokes. Wole was hardworking and an honest gentleman who was devoted to the service of God and Humanity.  The death of our brother, is not just a sorrow to the family and the community, but also too many of us who benefitted from the generosity, goodness and selfless service of the sage.” The governor encouraged the Matriarch, Chief (Mrs.) H.I.D. Awolowo and prayed that God will grant her and the family the fortitude to bear the loss. He latter signed the Condolence Register, where he furthered described late Oluwole Awolowo as “a great scion of the great Awolowo dynasty who lived a fulfilled life contributing to the development of the people of Ikenne, Ogun State and Nigeria.”

Responding on behalf of the family, Ambassador Tokunbo Awolowo Dosunmu thanked the Governor and his entourage for the visit.  “I thank Your Excellency and your entourage for this visit despite your tight schedule. The family appreciates this gesture”, she said. Oba Onakade, Alakare of Ikenne-Remo was among those at the residence of the Awolowos to welcome the governor’s entourage which included Hon. Andrew Uchendu, Honourable Member representing Ikwerre-Emohua Federal Constituency.
