The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Mrs. Jokotade Adamu has charged retiring staff of the Ministry to see retirement as another stage of life. Mrs. Adamu gave the charge in a one day training programme, organized by the Ministry for retiring staff, at the Ministry’s Conference room. According to her, ”this programme is organized to sensitize those who are retiring this year 2013, and also as a way of recognizing their contributions towards the improvement progress of the service.”
She noted that the training programme is the first of its kind that is organized by the Ministry for retirees to prepare them towards their retirement adding. Mrs. Adamu added ”because we do not want retirees to go into oblivion, that is why the Ministry have set up this programme and have invited Resource Persons from the First Bank of Nigeria, acclaimed to be the best retail Bankers in Nigeria to talk to them on the need to go into investments.” She also advised them to go on special diet and medications as they get older in life for the nourishment of their bodies.
The Marketing Manager of First Bank, Port Harcourt, Mr. Sunday Omoniwa in his speech urged retirees to know their financial status as to be able to achieve their financial goals. Mr. Omoniwa further talked to the retirees on the need to start preparing for their retirement by making some investments in the bank, putting into consideration, accommodation, regular income and also plan to make their will to avoid life’s uncertainties. The loan business Manager, Mr. Chijioke Ukwandu, in his view, advised the retirees to begin to invest humbly in businesses that will bring in daily returns which would sustain them after retirement.
