Lawmaker Decries High Level Of Immorality In Society

The Chairman of Rivers State House of Assembly Education Committee, Mr. Augustine Ngo has decried the increasing level of immorality in the society.

Mr. Ngo who said this in Port Harcourt at the launching of the Book, “VIRGNITY A TREASURE” by Mrs. Augusta Ayotamuno a Lecturer in the Rivers State University of Science and Technology said that the ugly situation should serve as a wake up calls for honest and sincere people to speak up against the increasing attack on mortality.

The Education Committee Chairman who was represented at the occasion by his Personal Assistance, Mr. Boma Amaso said that parents must build up the character of their children and regretted that recent events in the society point to the fact that the issue of virginity was being swept under the carpet.

The lawmaker pledged to liaise with relevant stakeholders in the Educator Sector with a view to making copies of the books available to schools the State.

Also speaking the Member representing Okrika Constituency in the House, Hon. Belema Okpokiri said that the book was timely as it would make a great impact on young people.

Hon. Okpokiri promised to make copies of the book available to all schools in Okrika Local Government Area.

In her remarks,  Chairman of the occasion, Professor (Mrs.) Charity Okujagu said that the Author had taken a bold step to contribute towards moral upbringing in the society.

Professor Okujagu a University Don of University of Port Harcourt who quoted several verses from the Bible to buttress her point said that young people need to wait on God for the appointed time.

She also said that the issue of virginity was not only for the girl child, but also for boys and charged the young people to gave their lives to Jesus Christ.

Speaking as the Chief Launcher of the occasion, the Chairman of Abua/Odual Local Government Area, Mr. Udi Odum lauded the Author for her exemplarily life and called on young people to emulate her in order to promote high morale standard in the society.

The Chairman who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Dele Lambert pledged to make copies of the book available for all schools in Abua/Odual local government.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Author of the Book, Mrs. Augusta Ayotamuno said that the whole concept of the book “Virginity a Treasure” was born out of a burden and concern for youths as the level of immorality in our society and how our values have been pushed to the background.

Mrs. Ayotamuno said that a society where immorality, evil and violence are celebrated was heading destruction.

The Author who said that she got married as a virgin at the age of 25, however noted that virginity was not for the girls alone, but for the boys as well, even though the girl child was more vulnerable.

Highlight of the launching was the dedication of the book by Ministers of the Gospel Led by the Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Lands and Housing, Pastor Christopher Briggs. ####
