Rivers Adjudged Best State In Malaria Control

Rivers State has been adjudged the best State in the Federation in the malaria elimination and control programme.

This was made known during the 11th biannual meeting of the State Malaria Control Programme Managers held in Abakaliki, in Ebonyi State.

The competition was organised by the National Malaria Control Programme, in collaboration with the Roll Back Malaria Partners.

Dr. Moriam Jagun, the World Bank Specialist in charge of Malaria Interventions and Implementation said the competition was divided into three segments.

Dr. Jagun stated this during the presentation of the award to the State health Commissioner, Dr. Tamunoiyoriari Parker in Port Harcourt.

According to her, Rivers State Ministry of Health came first in the South South geopolitical zone and also came first at the national level using the scores from the three different segments of the competition.

Niger State came second while the third and fourth places went to Enugu and Sokoto States respectively.

In his reply, Rivers State Health Commissioner Dr. Tamunoiyoriari Parker reiterated that the Governor Amaechi led administration has the political will and commitment to reduce the Health burden of all residents in the State, stating that its target is to completely eliminate malaria.
