Construct Mile One Market Phase 2, Georgewill Tells Amaechi

The Rivers State Governor, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi has been called upon to start the construction of phase 2 and 3 of the mile one market.

Chief Young O.C Georgewill, Chairman Mile One Market Traders Association, Rumuwoji, Port Harcourt made the call in chat with journalists recently, saying that during the commissioning of the first phase of the market, the governor promised that construction of the remaining phase which commenced in November last year, but uptill now nothing has been done.

“The budget for this year has been passed by the Rivers State House of Assembly, so I expect that the governor will remember us by commencing the phase 2 and 3 of the mile one market”, Georgewill said.

On the proposed loan which the Rivers State Governor want to take, Chief Georgewill was of the view that the Assembly members should cooperate with the governor so as to secure the loan.

In his words, “this loan will fast track the various construction works that is going on at present. This will make the projects to be completed on time.”

He regretted that some individuals who are not indigenes of the state are trying to destabilize the Mile One Market by causing disaffection among the traders, adding that, “as the chairman of the market, I will not allow the good relationship we have built over the years between traders, the state government, the local government and the general public be put down like a park of cards”.

On sub-letting of stores in the market, he said that the association has no control on anyone who wants to sell his/her store at a higher price, saying that we want peace to reign in this market. We want the state government to reap the dividends of the market which it has spent billions of naira to build. ###
