In a bid to ensure clean health environment and free flow of traffic, the chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (OBALGA), Prince Timothy Nsirim has directed all traders who displayed their goods along the roads in OBALGA to move into the markets built by the council.
He advised hawkers in the area to desist from hawking in Obio/Akpor.
Prince Nsirim gave the directive while addressing people of Obio/Akpor during a stakeholders meeting organized by his administration at the council headquarters, Rumuodumanya.
“I have made provision for them, but do not know why they refused to pack into the markets meant for them, mothers why do you choose to trade in an exposed environment? Why can’t you join the markets built by the council?”, Nsirim asked.
Prince Nsirim who frowned at the manner in which the areas were littered with sachets water and scraps produced by mechanics and hawkers warned them to desist from such act. He advised them to go to radio, television and newspaper to advertise their products.
The OBALGA council boss reminded parents that there was a law made by the Obio/Akpor legislative Assembly against child rights abuse and urged them to abide by the law or face prosecution.
The OBALGA council boss who expressed determination to partner with the Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority and Rivers State Traffic Management Agency (TIMARIV) to sanitize the LGA in line with Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s administration policy to ensure clean environment in the state, enjoined people of the area to change their attitude and support him actualize his targets towards clean environment in the area.
The chairman of OBALGA who said that he has vision for the people of the area, noted that their collective support will enable him accomplish his targets including building and commissioning of the phase 2 market in Obio/Akpor.
Reacting to questions by stakeholders at the meeting, the OBALGA council boss promised to build market at Choba and set committee that would checkmate the defaulters in the area.
In his speech, the Sole Administrator of the Rivers Sate Environmental Sanitation Authority, Mr. Ade-Adeogun who revealed that the ceremony was geared towards clean environment, stressed that we need to keep our environment clean because it is the key for long life.
He advised the people of the area to ensure daily cleaning of their environments, gutters, cutting grasses in their surroundings to prevent malaria, cholera, mosquitoes among others that will infect them with diseases which he said may lead to death.
In his speech, the Rivers State Director General of TIMARIV, Mr. Nelson Jaja urged those who sell along the roads to desist from such act to avoid causing traffic hold-ups.
He further warned drivers who park recklessly to desist from such act.
The TIMARIV Boss who condemned touting, (agboro), advised parents to stop their children from engaging in ‘agboro’ work to prevent them from stealing and indulging in other ungodly activities, pointing out that a law against trading along the streets will soon be past by the State House of Assembly.
The stakeholders who spoke at the ceremony included Lady Gladys Okeni Samuel Nnamta, among others appealed to Hon. Nsirim to provide parking space for vehicles and upgrade of market in the area.
In his vote of thanks Solomon Eke the Vice Chairman of Obio/Akpor council while thanking all participants at the ceremony appealed to the people of the area to support the council by ensuring clean environment and assured that the stakeholders meeting will be a continues one. ###
