Polo Is A Game For The Rich ~ Amaechi

The Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi has said that the game of Polo is a game for the rich as it involves getting horse and pay the groom who takes care of the horse.
Amaechi, who spoke through the commissioner for sports Chief Fred Igwe, stated this at Port Harcourt Polo Club on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2012 at the end of the 1st International Polo tournament in Port Harcourt.
Chief Igwe, who fell in love with how man does several works from the horse back even on high race including kicking the ball, said that though he was not aware of how the government assisted the Polo club, the land on which the game was played is owned by government and described the tournament as successful.
Chief Igwe also described polo as elitist in nature and so it can not be translated into school.
Other respondents such as President Marvin Yorbana and Rtn. Dominic Okafor maintained that although horse is expensive, everybody who is interested in polo should put himself together and feature in the game.
The respondents, who spoke at different times, described polo as a game of unity, pointing out how players come from North and South, East and West of the country to play the game in one accord, showing love for one another.
The social crusader, Marvin Yorbana further described the gathering of crowd in the tournament and all the affairs transpired as a sign of peace adding: “Peace has fully returned to Port Harcourt”.
Okafor, in his follow up speech, lauded members of the polo club for successfully hosting the tournament, proved that they don’t have loggerhead among them asking them to continue in that spirit of oneness. ###
