Lady Kate Unaeze, the lady captain of Port Harcourt Golf club will host the rest of female golfers in both Nigeria and Africa, in ladies amateur open championship, come November 4, 2011. The championship is billed to tee-off from 4th and end on 6th November.
As expected, the Port Harcourt golf club section is at its best, receiving participants of the wave making championship, according to the lady captain of the club. Not less than 150 to 200 lady golfers are expected from the shores of Nigeria and other African countries.
Speaking to The Newswriter sports desk, lady captain Kate Unaeze, revealed that her expectations are high, as female golfers from Ghana, Ivory Coast and other west African countries have indicated their interest to take part in the high profile amateur ladies open championship.
The peaceful looking lady captain, also disclosed that apart from giving out the trophy to the lady that will emerge champion, other interesting golf related items are up for grab by all categories of winners.
The lady captain gave Total PLC as the major sponsor of the championship among all the sponsors.
She also used the privilege in calling other sponsors who would like to assist in the area of sponsorship to make the championship memorable.
Lady Kate Unaeze, has also played her golf game in the shores of Ghana and other African countries, winning in each championship trophies, to her credit. She said what makes this championship unique is the inclusion of the children taking part in the championship.
According to her, this has not happened before in the history of the club.
To make her dreams real, she went into picking children from different schools, from the ages of 5 to 12 years, to take part in the forthcoming ladies amateur open championships.
She noted that the product of the championship will be groomed to be in the pack of golfers to represent the state and country, in national and international championships.
For the ladies, those who will be discovered from the championship will be constituted into a solid female golfers team to go for championship in Boswana and other African countries.
To make this dream actualized, she disclosed that N10m is expected to be raised, hence she is extending her invitation to all and sundry to make something out of the little children in the game of golf.
She commended the state government for their support and pleaded for more support from others, including the multinational corporations.
Meanwhile, she urged the ladies to come and watch their fellow ladies taking to the golf course, come November 4, 2011, adding that it promises to be funny as never before in the history of golf in this part of the world.###
