Guinness PLC Launches The World’s Largest Jersey In Port Harcourt

In support of the Supper Eagles participation in the 2013 African Cup of Nation (AFCON) in South Africa starting in few days time, Guinness Nigeria PLC has launched the signing of the biggest Jersey in Port Harcourt.
The event which took place on 16th January, 2013 was held at the Liberation Stadium, Elekahia, Port Harcourt.
This event was put together to rally support for the Supper Eagles, so that they can do well and win the trophy.
The two day event witnessed different performances such as playing of 5 Aside football, signing of the biggest jersey, red carpet photographs and free drinks for guests.
Guinness in a bid to draw support for the Supper Eagles in 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa said it is bringing Nigerian best Artistes to play at the Liberation Stadium free of charge to larger audience that will avail themselves of the opportunity.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Fred Igwe who graced the occasion after signing his autograph, commended Guinness Nigerian PLC for their numerous support to sports in the country.
Hon. Igwe said that through sports a lot of people have gained prominence. When asked if he was satisfied with the biggest Jersey, Hon. Igwe said that he was expecting less, but was shocked when he saw and signed on the biggest Jersey.
On the issue of why the Rivers State Government is supporting only football to the detriment of other sports, he stated that the just concluded National Sports Festival in Lagos revealed how the state government sponsor and support other sports, admitting the football has greatest audience.
Also speaking, the Marketing Manager of Guiness PLC, Mr. Obina Anyalebechi said in the past five years Guinness has been supporting the Super Eagles. He said they are sponsoring two hundred fans to South Africa all expenses paid through consuming their product.
The size of the Jersey he said is to show the size of Nigeria, explaining that the gesture is a way of showing their patriotism he said.
