RSG To Allocate Market Stalls On Monday

The Rivers State Government says the newly constructed ultra modern new layout market in Port Harcourt will be allocated to traders on Monday the 21st of January 2013.
The State Commissioner for Health and Chairman of the allocation committee, Dr. Tamunoiyoriari Parker stated this during a meeting with the Executive of the new layout market Traders Association in that the traders can vacate the temporary stadium where the monorail is supposed to terminate.
He said the allocation would have been done this week but the traders have pleaded with government to give them one week grace. He reiterated the fact that street trading is illegal and warned that it will no longer be condoned after the allocation.
Earlier, the Mayor of Port Harcourt Mr. Chimbiko Akarolo had stated that the Committee determined to ensure that only genuine traders will be allocated stalls, stating that Politicians will not be allowed to hijack the process.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the new layout traders Association, Mr. Borokayeoforiye Evans Awoala thanked the state government for building the new market and pleaded that the traders should be given some time to come back from the Christmas holidays.
