Rivers: Local Govt. Service Commission Prepares Staff For Retirement

The Rivers State Local Government Service Commission(RSLGSC) has concluded arrangement to cushion the effect of retirement among its staff billed to retire in the first half of 2013. To that effect, the Commission has organized a one day pre-retirement workshop for about 130 staff from the 23 local government areas in the state.
Briefing the press recently on the matter, in Port Harcourt, a commissioner in the Commission, Engr. Kingston Idatonye Jaja said the workshop is to prepare staff of the unified service for retirement.
Jaja urged the retiring staff to eschew falsification of their personal records to stay longer in service and instead prepare their minds towards the inevitable, which he said must come.
According to him, the essence of the workshop is to equip the staff to take up the challenge of retirement.
In his remarks, the RSLGSC Chairman, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini said retirement should be celebrated, since according to him, only few staff successfully reach the peak of their career through retirement. He regretted that staff instead of preparing for retirement, resort to falsifying their records, and warned that the commission can no longer tolerate such act.
The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon. Samuel Eyiba while declaring the workshop open, charged the participants to take the program seriously as it will help them pursue their career after retirement successfully.
