Infact, Tonye Harry represented Rivers State in lawn tennis in his active days and won for Rivers State medals, the part which is so open for the entire public is being a legislator in the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Degema Constituency, he actually was the immediate past speaker of the Rivers state House of Assembly.
As a sportsman, Tonye Harry never forgets his trait as he has established a lawn tennis academy in Port Harcourt, which training base is at Port Harcourt Club 1928.
The lawmaker cum sportsman’s passion in instituting or establishing his desires was visibly yielding result as the lads from his academy are the main stay in lawn tennis in Nigeria.
Number 3 junior lawn tennis player in Nigeria, Tonye Harry Lawn tennis product is Nigeria’s junior boys, number 1.
As if that is not enough, Tonye Harry himself is still active in the game of lawn tennis as, he has his prowess in the game considering the number of times he has challenged seasoned hands in the game now and then in Port Harcourt club and beyond.
The seasoned lawmaker is no small man for the game of lawn tennis in life. Lawn tennis to Tonye Harry means his second wife to portray his genuineness in the game, he is the first vice chairman of Nigeria Tennis Federation who could remember the exploit of Tonye Harry in the days gone bye when this astute lawmaker and goaltender was playing football in Port Harcourt.
Tonye Harry played second Division side in the Nigeria lower league where he kept a clean slate for his side in the goal post. This was practically exhibited when Rivers legislators played against the executive arm of government at Sharks Stadium, months ago to mark the Rivers House Assembly red carpet occasion.
The famous old goal keeper, Tonye Harry was at his old best as he denied ravaging Hon. Oji Ngofa of Eleme and Oronte of Andoni many scoring chances. Tonye Harry was voted man of the match .
The legislator has done his part in impacting to young lives in that regard in a sport he had so identified himself with.
