OGTAN Honours Oil Players, Others In PH

The Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN) has honoured individuals and companies operating in the oil and gas sector of the Nigerian economy. The dinner and award presentations, took place at the Banquet Hall of Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, Rivers State recently.
In his presentation, the chairman of OGTANI, Prof. Mike Onyekonwu, expressed his gratitude to growing number of their members which he said has risen to 150, since they started in 2009, and the need for members to understand why the organization was set up.
He explained that OGTAN is one of the human capital development operators in the oil and gas industry, charged with the responsibility of developing the Nigerian Oil and Gas sector through training.
He said the group that interfaces with content Nigerian Oil and Gas Operators, International Organizations and Nigerian Government to ensure a total human capital development in Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry and attainment of the Nigerian content goals.
Onyekondu added that their mission was to establish Nigerian Oil and Gas training business group to articulate and advance human capacity development in oil and gas industry, thereby protecting the interest of stakeholders, amongst others. He disclosed that 2012 was quite eventful for the oil and gas trainers, with the primary focus to ensure quality training delivery and achieving the audited account of over 40 registered companies.
Prof. Mike was confident that the year 2012 will see the emergence of the first Oil and Gas Training Academy (Centre of Excellency) in various strategic locations, across the country.
In a chat with to journalists at the end of the event, Engr. Alex Umahi, managing Director of Oil skills onshore and offshore Ltd, and one of the awardees lauded OGTAN for the honour bestowed on him.
Umahi, disclosed that oil skills is the business of capacity building and training services in the oil and gas industry.
He emphasized that their target was to create employment, believing that OGTAN which he described as a body of trainers will go a long way to generating employment in Nigeria.
