History does not come to any end, so far as man is still alive on planet earth. Recently, in the UN General Assembly, Palestine was given an observing membership status through votes cast by some sympathetic members. The United States and Israel were the only countries which vehemently opposed the decision of the UN General Assembly held in New York, the head quarters. To Israel, the decision to grant Palestine the position of an observer status will cripple the peace process that is about to yield result. The Gaza Strip has been a place of great interest for Israel and Palestine. And granting Palestine such position by the UN automatically boosts her international political strategies to ask for more.
It is believed and seen that Israel is living in the midst of her enemies in the Middle East. And now that little encouragement was given to the struggle for political independence, there will be more agitation and offensive confrontation by Hamas on Israel. The political and regional sect has been the group attacking Israel even when they are not provoked. The Middle East crises range from political to religious struggle. Analysts have observed that Israel and Palestine have religious difference that will not allow each other to compromise based on religious beliefs.
The attacks are on the increase in the Middle East. Few weeks ago, Hamas launched rocket missiles attack on Telaviv, the second largest city in Israel. Telaviv has been a peaceful city to dwell in. But now, the attack by Hamas has been extended to it, buttressing the statement credited to the Iranian President, that Israel would be wiped off from earth’s surface. The Golan Height is not also free from Hamas attacks. Now that Palestine has been given a position to have access to the floor of the UN General Assembly, it means there will be more attacks by Hamas on Israel. The Arab world is not relaxing to take over the world. They use politics, money and worse still, violence through religious belief.
Palestine today has many allies that will speak for her. But one thing that the whole world should not forget is the promise made by God to Abraham. The UN General Assembly might have forgotten God’s interest on Israel and in that Middle East. World Politics does not change God’s standard and program. Today, Middle East is very volatile and caution must be observed to avoid iminent world disaster. Indeed, God does not play politics with His decision, no matter who is at risk. The land of Canaan is the promised land and cannot be taken from the Israelites. Yes, Gen 12:6-7 reads; “Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land. And the Lord appeared unto Abram and said, unto thy seed will I give this land; and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him”. Indeed, to support the occupation of the land of Canaan for ever by the Israelites, the Bible, Psalm 24:1-2 reads: ‘The earth is the LORD’s’, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. The supreme decision of God can not be altered or revoked by any government or UN General Assembly.
The unprecedented decision through voting at the floor of the UN has come and gone, but the implications are yet to come to lime light. The diplomacy and maneuvering of activities have led the recognition of Palestine as a observer. The announcement or declaration of Palestine as an observer was greeted with great excitement in Palestine. Indeed, Late Yaser Aarafat, whose body was exhumed for autopsy few days ago, tried his best and could not reach this level of recognition.
The city of Ramela was agog with celebration as the aero plane carrying the leader, Mammoud Abbas touched down the airport. It was a remarkable achievement in the life of the Palestinians for the first time in history to have access to the UN headquarters in New York City. And what awaits the Palestinian people is having an independent state, Palestine whose headquarters will be part of Jerusalem, the coveted city. And that will be the beginning and end of World’s crisis.
The ancient city of Jerusalem is the reason for this agitation. The independence of Palestine will lead to the demarcation of Jerusalem; which will not be taken kindly by the Israelites. Already there is tension in the Middle East for the observer status of Palestine as an observing member of the UN. The Israelite Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu is not pleased with the latest declaration of Palestine. Today, there is tight security at the border towns. And security is beefed up to curtail crises. And Israel has refused to stop the building of three thousand houses, even when there is international plea for that.
This declaration was long over due, according to international analysts. But there is need for Palestine to calm down for now and observe the trend of events in the world. The latest status of Palestinian state should not be used to forment more crises for the already charged region. The November 2012 decision at the floor of UN General Assembly should not be allowed to trigger or generate uncontrollable crises in the world. World peace has been a mirag;e therefore, let there be caution to avoid world calamity. ###
