FERMA Boss Angry Over Slow Pace Of Enugu-P/Harcourt Highway Repair

Chairman of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, Mr. Jide Adeniji, has frowned on the slow pace of work on the Enugu-Port-Harcourt highway.
He said its present degree of dilapidation suggests that the contractors handling its repair had done little or nothing to put the road in order before the yuletide.
The FERMA boss noted that barely one month to Christmas, “the contractors are yet to complete at least half of the renovation work on the road.”
He made this known in Enugu on Saturday after monitoring the extent of work done so far. He said the agency had divided the road into four segments for easy completion of the maintenance process.
The four segments, Adeniji said, were Enugu to Okigwe, Okigwe to Umuahia, Umuahia to Aba, and Aba to Port-Harcourt.
He said, “We have about four contractors at the right side if you are coming from Enugu, and the first three segments belong to FERMA (three contractors).
“There is no problem about funds. We have enough money to do whatever we are doing so as to ensure that the maintenance process is completed before people begin to travel for Christmas.
“We are going to give users of that road the best and we are very sure they would have no reason to complain when we are through with the work.”
Adeniji added that FERMA’s renovation work was not only limited to Enugu-Port-Harcourt highway, but on “hundreds of roads across the country”.
