The governor of Rivers State has urged traditional rulers in the state to complement government efforts in polio eradication.
This the governor handed down through his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru in the opening session of the 87th, 88th and 89th quarterly general meeting of the traditional rulers at the council secretariat in Port Harcourt on Thursday November 22, 2012.
In his welcome address, the chairman Rivers State Traditional Rulers and President Ogoni Traditional Tulers Council, HRM King Godwin Gininwa JP drew the attention of the governor to some serious issues worrying traditional rulers and begged for urgent attention, asking for issuance of certificate of recognition and gazetting to some royal fathers and the filling of vacant chieftaincy stools in the state.
He requested for new vehicles for royal fathers in order to assist them in their day to day operations, as well as provide official cars for chairman and principal officers of the royal fathers.
He demanded the approval and the release of allocation due traditional rulers and N1.5m monthly imprest government withdrew from them nearly a year ago.
The Royal father reminded the governor of his promise made in the 86th quarterly meeting to assist them hold national monarch’s forum, aimed at proffering solution to the state of insecurity in the country, as well as holding periodic health lectures for monarchs. ###
