The much rumoured appointment of former ex-international player and U-23 dream team coach of Nigeria, Augustine Eguavoen has finally been laid to rest, as Sharks unveiled him along side coach Ere Dokubo as his chief coach while Sunny Esekume becomes Sharks assistant coach.
The unveiling of the crew took place at Landmark Hotel on Saturday 27th October, 2012 with the crew of Sportswriters in attendance among other crew of Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt. The GM of the club, Okey Akpaluku was also part of the unveiling ceremony.
Speaking shortly after the unveiling, Eguavoen to the sportswriters, Hon. Fred Igwe Commissioner for Sports handed over Sharks Blue traditional jersey with Augustine Eguavoen written on the back with jersey number 01 and charged the technical crew to maintain discipline while working together to reposition Sharks.
Hon. Igwe urged the newly contracted technical adviser of Sharks to work tirelessly to win laurels for the state, pointing out that the coach’s work is not in doubt as an international ex-player and coach of the national team he has seen it all, hence the state and the Rivers state government are counting the success he will bring to lift Sharks up in the league.
“We have played to the level of recognition though we have not won the FA and league, we have come second place couple of times and won the WAFU cup. Hence the suspension of the former crew and the appointment of the new coaching crew. As sponsors we will not tolerate indiscipline in Sharks Football Club” he stated.
In his acceptance speech, the newly unveiled technical adviser for Sharks, Augustine Eguavoen, said he accepts the appointment because he wants to be part of history, knowing that Sharks has not won the FA and league before. He used the occasion to plead with the entire football family in Port Harcourt to support him to achieve success for Sharks.
Coach Eguavoen also stated that working with the coaching crew will never be a new thing to him. According to him, he does not see them as his assistant but rather his colleagues, he is optimistic that his crew will work together to succeed. ###
