The Rivers State Government in order to boost and encourage golf in the state has said that it will develop two more golf courses to boost the two existing ones in Port Harcourt.
The state chief executive made this revelation within the week while speaking with sports journalists. Governor Amaechi said his administration will support every section of sports so as to give the enabling environment to the sports family to make the state proud in national and international competition.
The Rivers State government is the only government that is sponsoring two football teams in the Nigerian premier league, and also is the defending champion of the national sports festival, even as the state seeks to organize its own sports festival to be well prepared to defend its gold won at the 17th National Sports Festival here in Port Harcourt at the Garden City games.
Since coming on board, Governor Amaechi has supported sports in the state to grow. Just within three months the state Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Fred Mbombom Igwe received lots of laurels from Sharks, Dolphins, Rivers Angels who won the federation female soccer cup back to back, not stopping there, they also went on to win the league.
The state also produced the best cyclist and gymnast in the national sports festival, Rivers State has been responsible in producing quality players and sportsmen and women to the national teams. ###
