An unspecified number of armed robbers have operated at the Isaac Adaka-Boro/Abali Park area of Port Harcourt and carted away valuables including cash.
The incident which occurred at about 8:00am in the morning hours of Wednesday, 5th September 2012 left two persons dead, including the driver.
An eyewitness said that the victims who were traced all the way from a new generation bank were said to have withdrawn a huge amount of money for the payment of contractual staff.
It was gathered that on getting to the traffic light hold up, the armed gang immediately shot sporadically into the air to scare commuters away in order to succeed in their nefarious act.
However by the time the police repelled the attack on the victims, they had shot the driver and another occupant of the car.
Information available to The Newswriter has it that the other person in the car was the contractor who was going to pay his contractual staff.
Eyewitness at the scene who expressed shock alleged that “the contractor in question seemed to be one Faye who was doing contract with NDDC” adding that “perhaps he was going to pay his boys that worked for him.”
The Newswriter learnt that the victims gave up the ghost when they were being taken to an undisclosed hospital.
Meanwhile, when the Newswriter called on the police image maker, Mr. Ben Ugwuegbulem, he pointed out that the robbery incident took place at about 8.00am, saying that two persons were feared dead, as valuables and cash belonging to the victims were carted away by the robbers
Ugwuegbulem did not however confirm to The Newswriter the names of the victims, the number of the robbers and if the alleged contractor’s name was Faye, as he was still in a security meeting over the incident. ####
