Immanuel Int’l College Decries Bad Road

The Vice Principal, Mr. Paul Aley and the chairman, Parent Teachers Association (PTA) Engr. Howard H. Tom West of the Immanuel International College Abuloma campus, on Monday July 12, 2012, decried the deteriorating and deplorable condition of the road leading to the school.
Speaking to newsmen, Paul lamented that the government the community around and even handy philanthropists have refused to come to their aid to deliver them from the hardship the road has given them. He added that the school has been there for over ten years and has given satisfactory academic benefits to children.
In his speech, the PTA boss blamed the constant deterioration of the road to frequent plying of the road by heavy duty trucks carrying sand to nearby villages, adding that these trucks should be controlled.
The two speakers further pointed to the students at work trying to fill a depressed site with a pool of water, explaining that from time to time they fill the places with hard core, yet the situation deteriorates when rain comes.
Students who talk to us has it that it makes them to go late to school as they have to take a roundabout journey to reach the school and also discourage some students who could not endure, forcing them to change school.
A female student disclosed that it exposed them to risk of arm robbery, among others.
The proprietress, Mrs. Geraldine O. Kalango, confessed that about a kilometer of the road from Tereama has been done by the Niger Delta Development Commission and appealed to them (NDDC) to come and complete the half kilometre left so that her school could see the light of the day as the situation now has cut them off from the rest of the world.
In the same vein, the chairman, Okuru Ama Council of Chiefs, Chief Dan Denis Minibere, appealed to the state government to come to the deliverance of the Okuru Ama people by working on the road linking Azuabie and Okuru Ama.
He has it that for over three years, the community has been suffering on the road, cutting them from the rest of the world, causing economic hardship.
Speaking, Chief Minabere pointed out that so many roads are in the same condition in the community and that the governor should put them into his scheme of work. Roads mentioned were, Okuru Ama major road, Mission road, Town hall road and New Exclamation road among others.
Students, academic and non-academic staff, took time out to work on the bad road, filling pools of water with hard cores, calling on government to come to their aid. ###
