National Assembly Bribery Scandal: ACN Slams Farouk Lawan, Others

The Rivers State Chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), has challenged the National and State Lawmakers including councilors to see the alleged $3 million bribe against Oil Subsidy Probe Committee Chairman, Farouk Lawan and others as a warning to retrace their steps from indulging in sharp practices at the expense of their legislative business and oversight functions.
The party in a statement in Port Harcourt signed by its Publicity Secretary Jerry Needam, while reacting to the suspension of Lawan Farouk regretted that actions of lawmakers in Nigeria in recent times point to lack of conscience on the part of the Assembly members who are hell-bent on dragging the hope of the common Nigerians to the mud.
Jerry Needam said what is expedient at this crucial time in the quest for a liberal democracy is for lawmakers to purge themselves of the evil urge and begin to rebuild their lost honour and by extension, image of the country to safeguard the institutional integrity of the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly.
Jerry Needam said the situation doesn’t call for celebration for the fall of Farouk Lawan for there are hundreds of thousands of such shameless Lawans yet to be caught but a sober reflection on how those who are entrusted with power misuse such for their selfish desires to the detriment of the country and the people they represent.
The ACN regretted that rather than celebrate our leaders in government for exemplary deeds we end up glorifying criminals.
