Latest Fuel Scarcity: Amaechi Is Responsible, Says ACN

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Rivers State chapter has blamed the current fuel scarcity that has hit the state for some days now on the Rivers State Government.
According to ACN, in a press release issued in Port Harcourt by its Publicity Secretary, Jerry Needam, the recent directive by Governor Amaechi, through his commissioner for Urban Development, Tammy Danagogo that tanker drivers lifting petroleum products from private fuel tanks at Abonnema Wharf in the state be apprehended and dragged to court on flimsy excuses of traffic offences has resulted to the current fuel scarcity, which in turn has brought untold hardship to the people.
Rather than engage in act of thuggery with the tanker drivers, ACN says, Rivers State Government should have engaged them in dialogue for the sake of the masses who are now bearing the brunt of its hasty directive that they be apprehended.
ACN therefore, condemns in strongest terms the action of government, while calling for the resignation of the Urban Development Commissioner for not having the required wisdom to advise the governor appropriately on the matter and for allegedly indulging in physical assault with the tanker drivers.
It advised the Rivers State Government to release the apprehended drivers and their tankers and immediately initiate the process of dialogue with them, with a view to resolving the matter and ending the fuel scarcity.
