NAFDAC Consumer Safety Club, An Enlightenment Strategy

The Director General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC); Dr. Paul Orhii has described the NAFDAC Consumer Safety Club (NCSC) as one of the agency’s special public enlightenment strategies targeting the youths in the society in its efforts to eradicate fake/substandard regulated products and enthrone quality culture, while employing the use of cutting edge technology to track counterfeiters.
Orhii, stated this in Calabar during the Cross Rivers state chapter of the 9th annual award ceremony for winners of the NAFOAC organized annual secondary schools competition under the NAFDAC Consumer Safety Club programme.
The NAFDAC boss who was represented by the NAFDAC coordinator in the state; an Asst. Director, Mr. Kayode Fagboyo enjoined the youths to be agents of change by propagating the right virtues that can lead to behavioral change.
“We deem it expedient to immunize our society against counterfeits by re-orientating our youths through the activities of NCSC. The Agency took the initiative of catching them young by inaugurating the NCSC in 2003 with the aim of informing and educating members towards collaborating with NAFDAC on safeguarding the health of the Nation” he said.
He urged the students to use their membership of NAFDAC of NCSC to assist in information flow on NAFDAC regulatory activities and promote the fight against fake and counterfeit regulated products adding that NAFDAC mission is to mould a future generation that is not only empowered to be upright but demand uprightness from others .
The schools that came out tops in both senior and junior categories of the competition were; FAAN Secondary School Calabar, represented by Master Sunday Ita and Parliamentary Comprehensive High School Calabar, represented by Miss Daniella Chidinma respectively got a thermocool generating set each. While the runners up in similar order and represented by Godwin Idongesit Effiong of Government Technical College, lkot Nakanda Akpabuyo and Caleb Asuquo Edet of Hope Waddel Training Institute were rewarded with a water dispenser each.
Some of the NAFDAC stake holders who were present at the occasion commended NAFDAC for sustaining the competition for the past nine years and urged the students to always take their studies serious and shun drug abuse and other anti social behaviours. The schools proprietors also thanked NAFDAC for the awards.
The NAFDAC Consumer Safety Club competition is an annual event organized by NAFDAC for junior and senior secondary schools students in the country. The national final which consists of states zonal winners is held in Abuja. ###
