RSG Budgets N18m For Street Football

Sports Commissioner, Hon. Fred lgwe, said N18million has been placed on the table for winners of the maiden Port Harcourt Town/Borokiri Street Football to be organized by the Rivers State Government.
Speaking to journalists while inspecting work on some sporting facilities across old Port Harcourt Township, Hon. lgwe disclosed that Governor Amaechi has approved N10million, N5million and N3million respectively for first, second and third positions, for the football tournament.
He said, No 1 Field at Niger Street, Town, with FIFA approved turf would be used for the competition immediately it is completed.
According to him, the Governor’s directive for the competition may not be unconnected to the significant milestone sports serve as a tool for social change, integration and development.
“Street Soccer has changed the lives of thousands of people through the power of sports and this is an opportunity for the Rivers State Government to positively impact its people”, he declared, while details of the competition are to be released soon to the public and urged streets in the affected areas to start organizing themselves for the competition and visited the Basketball, Volleyball and Lawn tennis courts, all spread across Niger/Bende Streets. ###
