Communities in the various Local Governments in the state have been called upon to receive staff posted to their areas with open hand.
This call was made by the Chairman of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini, JP while addressing staff of Gokana Local Government Council at Kpor, Headquarters of the Local Government, as part of the commission’s tour to councils in the state.
Chief Nmerukini explained that the service was a unified one where staff from the various local governments are posted to any part of the state to render service. He advised the people to stop discriminating practice against non-indigenes serving in their areas in the interest of peace and good neighbourliness.
The Chairman stated that those who indulged in such acts should remember that their people are also serving in other places.
Chief Nmerukini then advised the staff of the works department of the council to make sure that they clean the surroundings in the local government to maintain healthy environment.
He lauded the local government for setting up a befitting information and communication technology centre and modern library and expressed the hope that both the staff and the people would take advantage of the facilities to be computer literate.
In his speech, the commissioner in charge of the council, Chief Jonah Tamuno, JP, described the local government as one of the best in project execution and enjoined the staff to always co-operate with the council chairman to maintain the standard.
Chief Tamuno told the staff to be happy to be associated with a local government that was in the fore-front of development, adding that they should prepare to render quality service to the people.
The Chairman of the Local Government, Mr. Demua Ledum Demua said that his staff are the best in the state and that he had at all times given priority to staff welfare.
Mr. Demua advocated that just as local government Chairmen are awarded for best performance, staff of councils who contributed greatly to the success story should be awarded also as an incentive for hard work and that the council was making efforts to provide more office space for staff to perform their duty effectively.
In his welcome address the Head of Local Government Administration in the Council, Mr. Godwin Kukang said that the council encouraged staff training and development through sponsorship to seminars, workshops and conducting promotion exercises for junior staff and implementing the results promptly. Mr. Kukang said that all the major projects executed by the council was as a result of the staff’s vital input and co-operation to the chairman and appealed to the commission to conduct promotion exercises for senior staff that are due more than five year ago. ###
