Preventable Deaths Occur In Bori Gen. Hospital … Community petitions Gov. Fubara

Alloy Khenom

There are claims among residents of Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area(KHALGA)in Rivers State that no fewer than four persons died recently at the hospital after minor illnesses. Close relations of the deceased persons were reportedly upsetted by the incident which they attributed to negligence or incompetence on the part of the institution’s  staff, specifically the medical doctor in-charge who handled the cases.

Our correspondent was reliably informed that, the deceased families and several other persons affected by similar circumstances made both individual or joint complaints to the leadership of  Nortem-Bori community, which hosts the hospital. We can confirm that the Community Development  Committee (CDC), of Nortem-Bori have already forwarded a heavily worded petition on the issue to the cool-headed but dynamic Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalaye Fubara for appropriate action.

Among demands sought in the petition are immediate transfer of the medical director in charge of the hospital over alleged incompetence, and possible probe into the cause of the alleged deaths. More details in our next edition as attempts made to speak with the doctor was unsuccessful at the time of filing in this report. We have a copy of the signed petition.
