Corruption has been described as the greatest enemy bedeviling Nigeria and needs to be eliminated.
A renowned playwright and poet, Capt. Elechi Amadi made the remark at the inaugural talk show of Pride of Africa in Port Harcourt.
Capt. Amadi hoped that the Federal Government transformational agenda and vision 20-20-20 would be achievable, but stressed the need to build confidence in ourselves and to re-establish the value of honesty.
The elder statesman urged Nigerians to be disciplined, and appealed to public office holders to change their orientation of amassing wealth and looting of public treasury.
Capt. Amadi, who is the Chairman of the State Scholarship Board, said, Nigerian students perform brilliantly even in foreign Universities, adding that Nigerians have the mental capacity to turn around the nation’s fortunes, but observed that what is lacking is the technology.
Also speaking at the show, a Management Researcher and motivational. Speaker, Godwin Gbarale, noted that Nigeria has a lot of intellectual materials and appealed to government to create an enabling environment where these materials would be put to use for the development of the nation.
According to Mr. Gbarale, we must get our politics and core values right if Nigeria must attain her place globally and frowned at the labeling of Africa’s culture, as primitive and demonic.
In her remark, the initiator of Pride of Africa and moderator at the talk show, Mrs. Esther Vikthur, thanked Hon. Victoria Wobo of the State House of Assembly, for sponsoring the event and charged Nigerians to have confidence in themselves by working honestly wherever they find themselves. ###
