Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission Dr. Christian Oboh has promised Journalists of unhindered access to information on the Commission’s activities, just as he urges the Press not to be hasty in discussing NDDC issues on the pages of the Newspapers.
Dr. Oboh stated this when Executive members of the Rivers State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists paid him a courtesy call in the office.
According to the Managing Director “with the passage of the Freedom of Information Bill, anything that you want to know about us in the NDDC, we are obliged to give you”
He stressed that the Journalism profession emphasizes Objectivity and Fairness and implored the practitioners to always strive to hear the other side of the story.
“Try to hear our side of the story, we are open to provide information on what we are doing, let us engage ourselves, not being hasty at judgment” Oboh said.
The chief Executive Officer restated the Commission’s Commitment to rendering transparent and quality service to the people, adding “the money appropriated for NDDC is not for individual pockets, we can assure you that we will not disappoint” the MD assured.
On Contractors, Dr. Oboh disclosed that the Commission has commenced the payment of all those that have shown commitment and dedication in projects execution. “we have started paying contractors, let me use this medium to tell contractors whom we are owing, who are willing to work to come, but we will only pay those who are willing to perform” the NDDC boss said.
The NDDC he said is desirous to partner with the NUJ in the task of delivering its mandate to the people of the Niger Delta.
Earlier the NUJ Chairman, Mr. Opaka Dokubo thanked the new Board for its press friendly disposition, promising that the NUJ was willing to work with the commission to actualize set objectives.
He charged the new Board to learn from the mistakes of the past in the NDDC and lead responsibly, with new spirit, zeal and commitment.
