The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tamunoiyoriari Parker has reiterated the importance of the media in promoting policies and programmes of government.
Speaking when the State Executive of the NUJ led by its Chairman, Mr. Opaka Dokubo paid him a courtesy visit in Port Harcourt, Dr Parker explained that his call for partnership with the media should be viewed seriously.
He added that information was an essential key to effective and efficient health care services, and remarked that most people die for lack of knowledge not due to disease.
Earlier, the State NUJ Chairman, Mr. Opaka Dokubo said it would support the Ministry of Health in the dissemination of public health information as a deliberate effort to boost health care delivery.
Mr. Opaka said as watchers of events on government activities, the NUJ is poised to partner with government to enhance the standard of living of the Rivers People in terms of healthcare delivery by sending the right messages to the people.
He said efforts by the Ministry to improve healthcare would be futile if the people are not well informed, stating that the NUJ would give increased publicity to the activities of the Health Ministry. ####
