Port Harcourt: NGO Organises Economic Empowerment Workshop for Council Staff

The Wisdom to Wealth and Development Foundation, a Non Governmental Organization, NGO has organized a 2 day economic empowerment workshop for senior staff of the local government councils in Rivers State.

The theme of the workshop was, “generating mass dividends of democracy in a dwindling economy”. No fewer than four (4) papers were presented by erudite scholars namely: Ihuaghata Nosakhare, Pst. Rume Daniels, Emeka Nobis and Chika Onuegbu. The papers presented during the workshop were: the Laws Of Super Financial Intelligence, Effective Leadership On Tough Economic Times, A Transition In A Technically Depressed Economic and Local Government Funds, Revenue and Allocation in Nigeria: Past, Present and Future.

While declaring the workshop open, the commissioner in charge of the Rivers State Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Wariopusenibo Rodaford LongJohn applauded the NGO for its initiative.

The commissioner who was represented by Director of Local Government Affairs, Elder E. I. Jonathan charged the participants to take every section of the workshop serious, and in turn practicalize the skills acquired in their day to day life.

In his speech the coordinator of the Wisdom to Wealth and Development Foundation, Prince Anyanate Kio said that the focal aim of his NGO was to project economic empowerment towards sustainable leadership, peace and progress. He had earlier maintained that the major objective of the workshop was to create a forum to interact with political leaders and top management officials of local government on promoting empowerment, investment and employment with minimum cost.

Prince Kio cautioned civil servants against ostentatious lifestyle and advised them to always invest for the future. He also applauded to council chairman not to squander councils’ funds, but initiate programmes and policies that will usher in the needed sustainable economic development in their respective councils.

The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of certificate of participation by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Government Affairs.  ###
