Passage of Statesman And Politician Tunji Braithwaite

On Monday 28th March 2016, an important chapter was closed in the political history of Nigeria as Dr. Tunji Braithwaite dies at 82.
Dr. Tunji Braiwaite was a statesman, politician, activist, lawyer and social commentator.
In the second republic, Dr. Braithwaite played active in politics. He contributed in no small measure to the political development of Nigeria as a nation. Dr. Braithwaite was the founder of the defunct Nigeria Advance Party (NAP) on which platform he contested the position of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1983.
In the advent of military government in December 31st, 1983 that destroyed all political structures and also the party system, Tunji Braitwaite did not relent in providing solutions to the problems of the nation.
It is very painful as a nation to have lost a great politician especially at this time of our political development as the country is searching for true and selfless leaders.
Tunji Braithwaite was a nation builder whose intention was how to get rid of poverty in this country.
Tunji Braithwaite’s NAP which was first launched on 13th October, 1978 in Ibadan was a radical political party that contested against Alhaji Shehu Shagari’s ruling National Party of Nigeria (NPN) in 1983.
We join the millions of Nigerians to mourn this great politician and pray God to give members of his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
May his gentle soul rest in the bosom of the Lord. ###
