Rivers: Abe’s Senatorial Liaison Office Burnt Down

Suspected arsonists have attacked the liaison office of former Rivers Senator, Magnus Abe, located at Bori, the headquarters of Ogoni in Rivers State.

Reports say the suspected arsonist set the liaison office on fire after the military allegedly raided the home of an ex Niger-Delta militant in the area.

Several persons in the State had condemned the raid on the home of the former militant, whose wife and brothers were reortedly harassed, with his property destroyed in his home town in Yeghe and Ada-George area of Port Harcourt.

Most of the critics are accusing Abe and a former member of the National Assembly, Barry Mpigi of instigating the military to carry-out the raid.

Both Senator Magnus Abe and Barry Mpigi are seeking re-election to the National Assembly, under the All Progressives Congress, APC.

However, a member of the APC in Ogoni, Kennedy Friday told newsmen that “some people are trying to destroy the peace and unity in Ogoni. The Ogonis are peaceful people. Why should anybody set the office of Senator Abe on fire? All these things started happening after Governor Nyesom Wike came to Ogoni.”

Meanwhile, the embattled ex Niger-Delta agitator, Solomon Ndigbara has approached the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt to seek protection of his fundamental human rights.

Ndigbara, who is from the Ogoni axis of Rivers State is one of the victims of the raids carried out by security operatives in recent times.

In a case filed by his Lawyer with suit number FHC/FHR/37, Eugene Odey, Solo as he is popularly called said his rights were being infringed upon.

His lawyer told newsmen that he want to know why the security operatives were after him.

The complainant is also praying the court to restrain the Federal Government from further harassment of Ndigbara.

Odey disclosed that his client, Ndigbara, had been in hiding, adding that “We are in court primarily to enforce his fundamental rights as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the African Peoples’ Charter.

“Chief Ndigbara is a free man. He has not been convicted for any known crimes, so he deserves the right to dignity, he deserves the right to life and he deserves the right to freedom of expression.

“We are also asking the court to restrain the Federal Government from further harassment and invasion on the liberty of my client”.
