Nembe/Bonny/Bille Waterfront: Transport Commissioner Meets With Stakeholders

The Rivers State Government says it is desirous of improving the living standard of residents and business operators in the Nembe/ Bonny/Bille Water Front.

Transport Commissioner, Deacon Akie Dagogo Fubara made this known during a meeting with stake holders of the Water Front in his office in Port Harcourt.

He said government has the responsibility of providing basic amenities like roads, portable water and electricity for the people but said the people also have the responsibility of supporting government programmes and policies which ultimately is for the good of the state.

According to the Commissioner the meeting is to interface with the stake holders to intimate them about government’s intention to intensify Internally Generated Revenue drive because of the dwindling oil revenue accruing to the state from the Federal Government.

He said although the Governor Wike led Administration inherited a lot of debts the Administration is committed to fulfilling its obligation to the citizenry. ‘This Government is your government let’s see how we can provide essential amenities” he stressed

The Commissioner while responding to complaints about multiple taxation and harassment by hoodlums in the water front promised to liaise with the security operatives to tackle the problem.

He frowned at the situation where some boat operators refuse to use the passenger manifest which the Commissioner said is for the benefit of the passengers in the event of an accident.

Deacon Fubara who advised them to make safety their watch word, warned against over loading and insisted on the use of life jackets on board.

Earlier the Chairman of the Ibipolo Community, Chief Elect Gospel Nyengibi who spoke on behalf of the stake holders of the Nembe Bonny and Bille Water Front thanked the Commissioner for convening the meeting and expressed their willingness to cooperative with the government to improve the revenue generated in the water front and expressed hope that government will in turn provide basic infrastructure. ###
