Rights Activist INEC Over Postponement of Rivers Elections

A renounced Civil Rights Activist and pro democracy crusader, Amb Emmanuel Nkweke aka Mr. Vote Count has applauded the Independent Electoral Commission INEC for postponing State/National Assembly election which was scheduled to hold February 6th 2016, stressing that it is a decision in the right direction hence it is aimed at ensuring credible election.
Amb. Nkweke made the commendation while speaking to journalists at the INEC national headquarters, Abuja.
According to him, election is not suppose to be conducted in a hurry hence it involves political parties, politicians and various stakeholders in the society stressing that anything that is worth doing is worth doing well.
Amb. Nkweke who is an expert in election monitoring and observation as well as a consultant on an electoral reforms to most African countries said election involves various dimension including election advocacy, voters awareness seminar, stakeholders meeting with INEC, holding of peace and security meeting with security agencies, pointing out that the totality of these when put in peace will justify the state readiness for an election.
He noted that in the case of Rivers State using ten days to notify the people is improper and expressed joy that the election is postponed adding that it will stimulate the voters/electorate, political parties and INEC the full opportunity to prepare in the forthcoming 19th March, 2016 elections.
Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke who is the group leader of the civil society platform in Rivers State called on Rivers people to be peaceful during and after March 19th 2016 election.
He also advised politicians not to use negative utterances against their opponents as well as not to see election as a do or die affair rather should congratulate whoever that emerges winners at the end of the elections. ###
