The special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Primary Healthcare, George Opuda has condemned a press statement credited to Senator Magnus Abe on the dreaded Lassa fever scourge.
This was contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday and made available to The Newswriter, Opuda lampooned the former federal parliamentarian for misinforming the Rivers peoples and politicizing health matters.
According to the Special Adviser on Primary Healthcare, Governor Wike placed high premium on health matters.
The statement reads in part “Let it be stated for the avoidance of doubt, that in response to the current Lassa fever epidemic in Rivers State, the state rapid response teams on epidemics in all the LGAs have been activated by the Hon. Commissioner of Health and are fully functional. Currently, serious enlightenment campaign is on through the ministry”.
According to Opuda, Holding/Observation Centres have been established at the BMSH, UPTH and at Potts Johnson Health Centre where currently a patient is under observation and over 300 cases are presently under surveillance, adding that, “the Oduoaha Health Centre vandalized under the past government is currently under renovation to cater for emerging cases.
He further maintained that public enlightenment is ongoing throughout the entire state, and advised the senator to stop peddling false rumour. ###
