Obuah Lays Sports Foundation For Students

Bro. Felix Obuah a sports enthusiast, philanthropist and proprietor of Go-Round Football Club of Omoku has laid the foundation of Sports for secondary schools in Rivers State.

A visioner per excellence, had partnered with the State chapter of the sports writers of Nigeria in all secondary school athletic championship in all the 23 LGAs of Rivers State. Titled “Go Round”/ SWAN Secondary School Athletics Championship 2016??

To kick start the championship the Mascot was unveiled on the 19th of January, 2016 at the Ernest Ikoli NUJ Press centre, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.

The idea of the championship is to produce generation of athletes that would represent state and Nigeria in local an international competition.

The competition is slated for Adokiye Amiesimaka sports stadium, all secondary schools designed for the 23 local government area of Rivers State over 550 athletes and officials will camped at the University of Port Harcourt throughout the duration of the championship.

The championship is expected to officially commence from Sunday, January 31.

Former Deputy Speaker of House of Representative of Nigeria, Austin Opara, KSC chairman the unveiling ceremony of the Mascot, commended the sponsor, describing him as a man with a large heart.

Austin Opara liken that of Obuah’s sponsored athletic championship to that of Late W.W. White of blessed memory, which competition curbed social vices among the youth in those good old days.

He thanked Bro. Felix Obuah for bringing same scene as he sponsors the championship, pledge supporting the sponsor with N1million to the first gold medalist of the competition.

Bro. Felix Obuah, giving his speech said, thanked SWAN for partnering with him,

“I had a dream that those athletes one day will surpass the great athletes of yesterdays”.

He pledged sustaining the championship annually. He also said, he will provide scholarship to 20 best athletes of the championship and also the best LGA.

Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka was the unveiler of the Mascot, also promised scholarship upto USA the most outstanding male.

SWAN national pledged donating a trophy for the championship annually. Elemechukwu Obowo, one of the SAs to the Governor of Rivers State pledged supporting the sponsor N1million annually.

Phalga boss pledge 1 million to support the sponsor, chairman local government commission also pledged supporting the championship as a person N500,000.

The Mascot was nicknamed Duckey. ###
