The leader of the People Democratic Party, PDP in the Ahoada-West Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Evang. Hope Ikiriko has called on the people of the area to continue to support the administration of Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike as the executive governor of the state.
Evang Ikiriko who was a member of Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) made the call at the end of the LGA stakeholders’ meeting at Akinima, the headquarters of the council on Monday said that the respect he has for the judiciary is based on the belief that the Appeal Court will vacate the judgment earlier passed by the Election Tribunal.
Reacting swiftly to the statement credited to APC during a rally at Okarki, Evang Ikiriko said, “It was not a serious thing that Hon. Asita only wanted to use it to shore up his failing relationship with the APC gubernatorial candidate, but not a threat in any way in the LGA. According to him, “he is not popular in his ward. He cannot win an election and can never deliver his party,” adding that “popularity is measured with service”.
Meanwhile, the PDP chieftain had described the purported defection of about sixteen (16) persons that claimed to be PDP members as “Kangaroo arrangement”. He therefore appealed to the people to be steadfast in their support for Wike’s people oriented programmes, including Hon. Enitoun Iyalla, the CTC chairman.
In her statement, the woman leader, Joy Wowoh said that Hon. Asita is not a threat to PDP, because the APC members are not in touch with the grassroots. She maintained that all the women including the non-indigenes in the LGA are for PDP.
In his speech, the CTC chairman, Ahoada-West LGA, Hon. Iyalla said that Rivers peoples will not forget in hurry how Gov. Wike cleared a more than seven (7) months backlog of salary owed workers including pensioners in the state.
The CTC boss, however, called on the well meaning people of the state not to take APC seriously as they are only out to cause confusion and disaffection in the polity. ###
