Information reaching our political desk revealed that some local government areas chairmen of the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP met in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
The information we gathered disclosed that, the meeting of the LGAs chairmen took place in one of the hotels located along Iwofe road in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
A reliable source hinted this weekly that the discussions in the said meeting were centred on the performance of the immediate past Caretaker Committee Chairmen CTC of the twenty-two (22) LGAs.
After much discussions and carefully review of their (ex-CTC chairmen) tenure, the PDP LGA chairmen described the performance of the outgone CTC chairmen as “poor and the deliberate attempt to tarnish Governor Wike’s administration”.
The PDP chairmen alleged that the immediate past CTC chairmen did not do anything to build a strong PDP in their respective localities. Thus they became laughing stocks for the members of All Progressives Congress (APC) in their LGAs
According to them the attitude of the ex-CTC chairmen tallied with the current social philosophy, “everyone to himself or herself”.
Knowledgeable sources told this publication that the party chairmen collectively resolved that they will distance themselves with the ex-CTC chairmen that performed below the expectation of the masses.
“Infact we have already imposed sanctions on them, because their behaviour shown that they wanted to frustrate the good works the governor is doing. We cannot identify with people who fail to key into the Wike’s vision of new Rivers’, one of the party chairmen told our political correspondent.
The LGA Party chairmen in the said meeting applauded the leadership style of Governor Wike, saying that his giant strides have impact positively on the lives of the Rivers people.
They appealed to the governor not to return the ex-CTC chairmen that did not add value to the development of the state while they were in office, observing that some of them have enriched themselves with public funds.
It would be recalled that before the dissolution of the local councils on the 8th September 2015, there were series of protests against some CTC chairmen for what they called inability of paying workers salaries and non-execution of laudable projects that will ignite positive transformation in the rural communities. ###
