New Rivers CP Takes Stock

The Rivers State Police Commissioner CP Musa Kimo said the kidnap of Dornu Kopgbara, a vanguard columnist has been released as the police was on top of the situation.

CP Kimo gave the indication at a press briefing in Port Harcourt to showcase modest achievements recorded one week after assumption of office on 8th September, 2015.

The commissioner of Police stated that during the time under review the police has arrested series of armed robbers with intelligence report that raided a suspected criminal hideouts at Buguma waterfront where the hoodlums open gun fire on the police, they left with bullet wounds, while abandoning one AK 47 assault rifle with seven magazines and sixty round of 7.62 line ammunition.

He explained that on 7th September 2015, the police responded to a distress call at Eze Aburu Godfrey at Eliogbolu Community, in Obio/Akpor LGA and rescue the situation where the police opened gun fire and dismantle the robbery gang, where they escaped with bullet wounds and left AK 47 riffle.

On the issue of uncertainty in the state, CP Musa started that they have made concerted effort to reduce the trend to the barest minimum as the police storm the residence of a notorious cultist and armed robber, one Friday Kwee in Bere community LGA who escaped, but his accomplice Dumka Friday a female was however, arrested and the following items were recovered, one Toyota Camry car with registration No. SMK 243 BW, one pump action gun, with ten cartridges and other six suspected cultist, age ranging from 20-32 were arrested.

He further explained that the police has arrested some kidnapping suspect in the state at Isaka creeks and rescued Ann Emeka, a victim, also one Friday Desmond rescued in a forest along East-West Road. Some of the suspected kidnappers namely Promise Ugochi, Stephen Jumbo and Uchechi Nwachukwu were arrested in the process and two locally made guns were recovered from them.

The police boss further stressed that a kidnapped victim was rescued from Ogbogoro waterfronts and rescued Mr. Polycarp Nwosu as the kidnapper abandoned their AK 47 rifle and one locally made pistol and 20 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition and charms at the scene.

The police commissioner assured Rivers people that the Command will be proactive where they will use intelligent, robost police media, visibility and massive deployment as some of the strategies to mob out guns from the public and combat crime with high profile of human rights and zero tolerance for corruption in the state, stating that henceforth, no corruption will be entertain from the police. ###
