Ministry Of Urban Development Commences Demolition Of Illegal Structures

The State Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning has commenced demolition of illegal structures, shanties and batchers in some parts of Rivers State capital.
The operation which was led by the Commissioner for Urban
Development, Dr. T.W. Danagogo and other top officials of the
Ministry, Thursday, last week, covered areas including, Aba road, G.R.A, Nkpogu and Rainbow town.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the operation, Dr. Danagogo warned owners of such structures in any part of Port Harcourt and its environs to remove them or risk their eventual demolition.
He decried the situation whereby residents and developers constitute themselves into nuisance and lawlessness by persistently erecting structures that are against stipulated Urban and Physical planning regulations.
The Commissioner noted that henceforth, such structures would not only be demolished, but their owners would be arrested and prosecuted, especially those who had been given the concession of extended notice.
According to him, the Ministry is prepared more than ever before to restore Port Harcourt to its original master-plan as well as its garden city status. . ###
