Tribalism, Sectionalism, Bane Of Our Democratic Growth – Chief Ebitimi

A one time political juggernaut in Bayelsa state, Chief Ebitimi Joseph, has lamented that sectionalism and tribalism have been the bane of the nation’s democratic growth, adding that Nigerians, (Bayelsa in particular) should discard such primordial sentiments when choosing their leaders in the 2012 elections in the state for the interest of socio-economic growth and development.
Chief Ebitimi urged Bayelsans to choose their leaders based on their track records of achievements, since according to him the state craved for purposeful and selfless leaders who possess the character to tackle the many challenges that confront the state.
He gave example that the nation’s president Goodluck Jonathan had proved his critics wrong through his humane disposition and determination to make a difference in the governance of the country. “Nigerians support him to deepen democracy and bequeath lasting legacies to the people”, he stated.
The politician-turned-businessman who spoke to The Newswriter editor in an interview in Port Harcourt, noted that Nigerians in general has grown past the era of tribal or sectional politics, and advised that the people whipping up such primitive sentiments should be shunned by Nigerians when making their choice for the governorship position of the state.
Speaking further he said, “President Jonathan has provided Nigerians purposeful leadership and he has proved that he is focused and ready to make a difference by giving Nigerians every reason to be proud of their country.
“That is the more reason we must lend our support to this administration to enable him further actualize his vision of progressive and prosperous nation. ##
