The National Body of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria will be honouring Gov. Wike of Rivers State as the association patron for supporting and encouraging sports not only in the state but Nigeria as whole.
Gov. Wike has agreed to host the full council meeting of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) beginning from Tuesday, August 25 Friday to August 28, 2015.
The full council of SWAN comprises National Executive Council, State chairmen and secretaries including the FCT.
By this action, he has further demonstrated his love and encouragement about sports development in Rivers State and Nigeria at large. It would be recalled that the governor hosted the nation’s U-23 dream team 6 in the subsequent Rio 2016 Olympic qualifier against their Congolese counterpart, in addition he graciously paid eight (8) months outstanding salaries and allowances of Sharks, Dolphins and Rivers Angels players as well as moves to pay the sign-on fees owed the players of the team for several years.
He has also made arrangement to host (3) three matches involving the Super Eagles with a view to ensuring Nigeria qualifies for both African Cup of Nations and FIFA world cup.
It is against this background that the National Executive Council (NEC) of Swan will be honouring Governor Nyesom Wike as a patron of the association for showing proven and demonstrable love for sports development within a short period of time in office. It is the belief of SWAN that many more opportunities would be encouraged and enhanced by the governor, not just in the state but in Nigeria as a whole.
The much talked about 2015 National full council meeting of the sports writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) tagged “Rivers 2015” will have the king of Opobo kingdom and chairman of Rivers State traditional rulers Council, His Majesty king Dandeson Douglas Jaja (JP) Jeki V as Royal father of the day.
To ensure a successful hosting of the high powered full council meeting, a local organizing committee (LOC) and five (5) subcommittee namely contact/security, venue/protocol, welfare/accommodation, Transport/Medical/publicity to ensure a well coordinated programme and one that would stand the test of time and make the state proud were constituted.
Since then, the LOC and the various subcommittee have been working round the clock to ensure arrangement being put in place are perfected for a memorable full council meeting in Rivers State.
