It would be recalled that Royal Woopers Basketball club was a privately owned and run by a private hand till it exploits attracted the Rivers State government to bought it over from it owners. And since then, instead of making progress the famous Royal Woopers was reduced to the zero level, courtesy the Rivers State government refusing to fund the team.
It got so bad that players from other state left in pursuit of greater pasture, somewhere else.
Recalled that Royal Woopers is the only basketball club the state could boast of, it won back to back the DSTV basketball tournament and was most feared by other basketball clubs in the west African region, that was the reason Rivers State government made the bold step to own the club.
Before the final extinction of the club, the club could not honour matches outside Rivers State, that was the gradual collapse of the Almighty famous Royal Woopers Basketball Club of Rivers State.
The players were owed years of salaries and allowances, when they could not stand the hunger, suffering and humiliation, after much peaceful protest to the Rivers State Government House and Rivers State House of Assembly, the biblical saying of to your tent oh Royal Woopers Basketball Club players of Rivers State, came into play.
The Newswriter sports understand, the private owners of the club are contemplating to host a Basketball tournament with the view to resurrecting Royal basketball club back to life.
