Worried by the July 9th Federal High Court judgment delivered by Justice Lambo Akanbi which sacked APC chairmen and their councillors in Rivers State, a pro-democracy commentator, HRH Chief Owabie Tobin, the Eze Onumini I of Port Harcourt City LGA has appealled to judges to desist from acts capable of igniting violence among clients.
In a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt, Chief Owabie who is not a lawyer described the judgment as wrong recalled that the 22 LGA chairmen in Rivers State had approached Justice Akanbi to be joined in the matter with the Rivers State government, which he (Akanbi) refuses hence the chairmen headed to Appeal Court and the Industrial Court at Bayelsa, pointing out that Justice Akanbi could not wait for the Appeal Court judgment before he delivered judgement, describing the judgment as a miscarriage of justice, which has set confusion in the state.
The Royal father who said that the judges were expected to be the hope and the strength of both the poor and the rich in the society expressed disappointment at the performance of most judges.
He however, cautioned them against taking bribe from clients as to deliver fair judgments.
Chief Owabie who frowned at the traditional rulers inability to play their roles as royal fathers in their domains rather play politics to enrich themselves by drumming support for politicians, who would later dump them and make them caricature urged traditional rulers to live upto expectation by ensuring peace and fair judgment in their various communities.
He further advised them to give necessary advice to the governor and other politicians who are in position of trust as well as stakeholders to ensure good leadership which would go a long way to improve the lives of the people of the state.###
